previous question unanswered-- menstural cupsFrom: Alison (anonymous@obgyn.net)Fri, 10 Apr 1998 09:11:01 -0500 (CDT)
Hi. I asked this question last week but no one replied. I have been trying to research this topic all over the internet and cannot come up with any answer. Please, if anyone on this message board has any information about menstrual cups, I would really appreciate a response! Here's my question: I want to continue using menstrual cups but have questions about their safety. I have read that there are no conclusive findings that the diaphragm or menstrual cup cause TSS. I have also heard, from another (possibly unreliable) source, that menstrual cups are *very* dangerous, more so than tampons! I am very confused! On the one hand, the Keeper menstrual cup (a reusable rubber cup) is being marketed as almost completely danger-free and people are using diaphragms like crazy to prevent pregnangy, yet menstrual cups are dangerous? I would like to know if I can safely use my diaphragm as a menstrual cup, because it is more comfprtable than the Keeper. Is this dangerous (worn up to 12 hours)? If so, then why is the Keeper marketed as having no association to TSS? Thanks very much in advance, I look forward to any advice you can give me.
