4th degree episiotomyFrom: Jamie Iselborn (anonymous@obgyn.net)Thu, 9 Apr 1998 21:17:38 -0500 (CDT)
I am looking to find out how common problems with 4th degree episiotomys are. My daughter was born 2 years ago (7lb 4oz) and I was cut prior to delivery and then she tore me. Needless to say I was sutured at that time. Seventeen months later I delivered my son (8lb 8oz) no episiotomy was preformed and he did not tear me. Twice when my daughter was around 9 months old I had two problems with fecal incontince. Since my son was two weeks old (he is now 10 months old) I have had several embarrisng episode. Having two children in diapers and no family around, getting to the doctor to finally get my problem diagnosed has taken some time. Finally, I made it to a colon-rectal dr and he has diagnosed my problem that my sphincter muscle is not one continous circle-he could feel two end to the muscle. Next week I have to have a test done on the muscle and the nerves in that area and then I'm supposed to have surgery to repair the muscle. I am told that the surgery is not 100% effective. I am really upset about this and would like to find out more about this condition. If anyone could help I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you in advance.
-- Sincerely,
