Abnormal Bleeding/Postcoital BleedingFrom: Sheila (anonymous@obgyn.net)Sat, 4 Apr 1998 16:04:05 -0600 (CST)
I am a thirty-one year old female who has had one abnormal papsmear approximately 4 years ago. A biopsy was performed and the doctor told me that I had HPV although the lab report said that I had cervicitis. The doctor performed the LEEP procedure and my paps have all been normal since. I was however diagnosed with PID last year due to an IUD that lodged itself in the side of my uterus. In the past year I started to have prolonged periods. That progressed to bloody discharge between the prolonged periods. The next progression was spotting after intercourse and at the present I have heavy bleeding after intercourse and spotting one day, heavy the next and so on. I have an appointment with a new Ob/Gyn in one week. I know that the symptoms I'm having could be serious and I would like to know what I should expect as treatment is concerned from the new OB/Gyn. If I have a normal Pap should I request a second one and with these symptoms is a biopsy normal procedure even with a normal pap. I have heard horror stories about HMO contracted labs and how paps are misread all the time. Should I request that my pap be checked by the new autopap system even if I have to pay out of my own pocket Thank you. .
