Re: Endo/Massive Adhesions - Help!From: Karen (anonymous@obgyn.net)Thu, 2 Apr 1998 21:10:26 -0600 (CST)
Thank you for your reply; I appreciate your time and concern. I'm not sure if I left out details or if you missed reading some of my posting. I do realize that adhesions are a result of surgery, but there were no steps taken during my surgery 12 years ago to minimize that risk. Laparoscopic lysis of my adhesions now has been deemed impossible because of the extent to which they have grown. My surgeon has advised that a punctured bowel was inevitable, not to mention many other problems which would result. I have been advised that I am not a candidate for Interceed as there is too much involvement with all of my organs. I am very much against using Lupron or Danocrine; I feel that not only are the side effects quite a drawback, but the possible long term effects from such a temporary measure certainly outweigh the benefits it might have for me. The surgeons would like to perform a hysterectomy but are advising against the procedure because of the risks and the outcome of more adhesions. Apparently they can't get to my female organs to remove them because of the extensive blockage. That is my dilemma - I feel like I'm between a rock and a hard place because lysis of adhesions is such a Catch-22, but I'll get no relief from the endo without the surgery... I am in the Phoenix, Arizona area so if you know of some advanced technique for dealing with my adhesions (it looks like that must be my first priority), I would certainly appreciate any recommendation! Thank you so much for your time.....Karen
