I saw my new doctor on 2/11 and after having tried 5 months on OCs with terrbile side effects I wrote a 3 page letter to him describing the past 6 years of my life, incidentally since my tubal ligation. I have gone through 3 laparoscopies, 1 LEEP, cystoscopy, biopsy, hystoscopy, partial removal of my cervix due to a pre-malignant tumor and dysplasia. On March 6 my new and most wonderful doctor performed an LAVH. I feel like a new woman!!!! I have been sleeping restfully through the night ( haven't been able to do that in years!) At my 2 week post-op check he saw the huge smile on my face, gave me a big hug and told me he could tell I was doing great. It turns out that even though the other doctor was doing pap smears every 6 weeks for the past 6 months, the cervical dysplasia that had re-developed went undetected until it reached a severe level. Also, the cyst that was found and left alone on my left ovary by the first doctor had grown to a size larger than the ovary itself and adhesions had re- formed between the ovary and sigmoid colon. My right ovary is healthy and normal and was left intact. A side note to this was, when I had my tubal ligation done, the doctor put 2 bands on each tube, one of the bands had dislodged and was floating in my abdomen. The moral of this story is: When a woman complains of severe pain, irregular, heavy periods, low back pain and inability to perform regular everyday duties and loss of sleep, do not tell her to give her body 6 months to adjust, listen to her! (that is what I heard from my doctor for 5 years) It was only when the initial bout of cervical dysplasia and tumor was visible to the naked eye that he decided I needed further attention. I kept hoping that in 6 months I would be okay, I was foolishly optimistic and suffered needlessly. I am glad to say that I have finally reached a happy ending to this nightmare and at the age of 37 I feel reborn!
