We hope to see you all tonight in the Women's >Health chat room at talk@obgyn.net. > Hi All, We have two chats scheduled for tonight. Along with Doula chat from 9-10:30pm CST there is Janet Tomko, RDMS from 7:30-9pm CST hosting "Understanding Ultrasound". Note that 7:30PM CST (central standard time) is 5:30PM Pacific Coast, 8:30PM East Coast, 1:30AM UK GMT, 2:30AM Continental Europe, 10:30AM Far East and 12:30PM Australlia time. :-) If you are planning on chatting tonight and this is your first time *** I HIGHLY RECOMMEND *** that you take a few minutes before the chat session tonight to make sure you can get into the chat rooms and use the chat software. Step 0) Make sure you have Netscape or Microsoft Internet Explorer version 3 or 4 going on your computer. You can check your version by selecting the help/about menu. If you are still running Windows 3.1 or you're on a Macintosh you need to use Netscape and not Microsoft. If you only have AOL or some other web browser you can still go into chat but without using the plugin which offers a fancier user interface. When you get to the login screen that says "username" and "password", there are also choices on the right hand side for how to chat: plugin, java or HTML client. Choose the HTML client, that should work with any web browser. If you have installed the plugin you can simply accept the default which is to run the plugin. Step 1) Install the plugin. You can go directly to the page that gets you the plugin and instructions for how to install it at http://www.ichat.com/download/client.html You only have to install the plugin one time. After you do it once it will always be there. Installing a plugin is a 2 step operation. The first step is to download the plugin from the ichat site to your computer. To do that, click on the download link, save the plugin into a file in a directory like c:\temp. Second step is to install the plugin. You do that by double-clicking on the file you just downloaded. Once you do that the install will begin and it is pretty much automatic. After the install is complete you can delete the file you downloaded if you want to save disk space on your computer. The documentation at http://www.ichat.com/download/client.html is pretty good and includes some pictures to help you get through this step. Step 2) Last preliminary step is to register with the ichat system at OBGYN.net. This is when you select your "username" and "password". The username can be whatever you want it to be - this is the name everybody else is going to see whenever you type something and chat. Some people just pick their name like 'Drbradley' and others pick a name that is a personna like 'cheery'. The registration screen also lets you optionally add your email, URL, phone number, address, and comment. You don't have to do this but if you do other people can lookup who you are and this information will appear. It also lets them send you email or go to your web site. Lastly, you can pick an 'avatar' which is a small icon that will appear along with your name whenever you chat. If you pick nothing you will get the default which is the blue ichat smilely block. It is even possible to create your own custom icon (Roberta did this) and upload it into the site. If you want to do that email me for assistance. To get to the registration go into the anonymous@obgyn.net area from either the medical or women main news pages or the button on the left hand side. Click on the button that says "One Time Registration". It will take you to a page that has the Step 1 & 2 I've described here. Go to Step 2 and select the link that says "Create my talk@obgyn.net user account now." That will take you to the registration form. Using talk@obgyn.net) If you go to chat often you might want to bookmark http://chat.obgyn.net:4080 This is the URL that takes you right to the OBGYN.net chat front page. Once you loaded the plugin and registered once. All you need to do is go to the chat front page and select the graphic for the room you want to go into such as Women's Health. That will take you to a screen where you enter your "username", "password" and select the viewer you wish to use such as HTML client (default is plugin). Hit the "Log Me In!" button and you are there. We also have training sessions scheduled for every Tuesday 6-7pm CST and Thursday 12-2pm CST if you wish to tryout and use chat. Assistance) I will be staying close to email from now through the Doula session. If you need assistance email me at bruce.speyer@obgyn.net or call (512) 231-0810. If you email tell me what OS and web browser you are using and include your phone number so I can call you back if needed. Hope to see you tonight! Bruce
