a silly question? Pregnancy and exercise

Yeah- I'm officially pregnant! From reading this forum and other resources I feel pretty prepared, but I have fallen victim (as I'm sure most of us do)to the conflicting info. out there that can cause some serious insecurity! Anyhow, I know that exercise is good, as long as my heartbeat doesn't go above 140. I haven't added anything extreme to my workout, but I have always done stomach crunches (ok, I admit it- "always" is probably an exageration). I was talking to a friend who is also pregnant, and she freaked when I told her about the crunches. That it could hurt the baby in some way. She said she had read it in one of her books. To me, it seems as though strengthening stomach muscles could only help, especially later on in the (eek) labor process. If someone could please let me know if I should stop the crunches or keep on going, I'd really really appreciate it. Thanks so much! Hope you all had a great weekend! Steph
