HPV and insurance coverageFrom: Ami (anonymous@obgyn.net)Sun, 1 Mar 1998 15:24:26 -0600 (CST)
Hi. I had my first abnormal pap smear in September 1993 when I was 18. Unfortunately, I was trying to get health insurance at the time. Of course, I was turned down for coverage. After that, I had a colposcopy that showed HPV lesions. My gynecologist put me on folic acid and had me get pap smears every 3 months. Since I started taking folic acid, my condition has improved. I've had normal pap smears for the last 2 years and now I'm back to yearly pap smears. I still have a big problem though. I still can't get health insurance coverage. I've even tried to get coverage that excludes the condition. My doctor told me that I should have no problem getting covered, but she doesn't know what company might cover me. I've been turned down by Blue Cross and an HMO based in Orlando, Florida where I live near. The Hmo said that I would have to have normal pap smears for 5 years before they would cover me. I was hoping that someone might know how I should go about getting health insurance and/or what companies I should try.

Thank you,
Ami
