Increase in hot flashes is very common with the raloxifen. And while raloxifen does decrease total cholesterol, it does not raise HDL, the good cholesterol; it may not provide the same cardiovascular protection as estrogen. As far as teh shingles, I don't know whether that can be attributed to the raloxifen. Shingles is a reactivation of the chickenpox virus, sometimes brought about by stress or a suppressed immune system.
