Cramping during ovulation

I am just wondering, ever since the birth of my second child and my periods got regular I definately know when I am ovulating. I heard this was normal for the cramping at first because your body is getting used to working again. My daughter is now 2 and sometimes the cramps are so awful that I just want to lay in bed with a heating pad. There have been times when I can hardly walk. I have a friend who says this is not normal. I need some advice here, I don't know what to do. If I do go to the Dr, how do I even tell her what is going on without thinking that they won't believe me and the pain I am in. I have also started having cramping around the time of my period which is worse then normal. My mom and her mom have both had hysterectomies. I am only 28 so I am very concerned, even though I am done having children. Thanks for any help.
