Hi Everyone-

I came across a new site today that I found very helpful. The National Partnership for Women & Families, formerly the Women's Legal Defense Fund, launched its website this week.

http://www.nationalpartnership.org

Their site provides all types of information: the Family and Medical Leave Act, quality health care, fact sheets on issues like family leave, sexual harassment, affirmative action, reproductive and other health-related topics, and genetic discrimination, plus transcripts of testimony before the House and Senate. You can also take online action by faxing or e-mailing your Congressman about these issues.

I thought some of you might find it as interesting too. I've included their launch message below.

Thanks! Laura.

***** The National Partnership for Women & Families, formerly the Women's Legal Defense Fund, unveiled the new site as it announced its new name and the findings of Family Matters, a national poll on workplace and health care issues. The site offers something for everyone: from practical consumer information to sophisticated policy analysis. It is easy to navigate, searchable, and full of information and resources on issues that matter to women and families.

>From the homepage, site visitors can:

- find out how the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) and Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) can help them by viewing easy-to-read, downloadable consumer guides, including the FMLA guide in Spanish;

- link to findings from the Family Matters poll to see what men and women think are the most pressing health care needs and workplace concerns;

- learn about the National Partnership's new Quality Health Care and Family Leave Initiatives;

- view the National Partnership's press releases and publications, including fact sheets on issues like family leave, sexual harassment, affirmative action, reproductive and other health-related topics, and genetic discrimination, plus transcripts of testimony before the House and Senate;

- find out how to join the National Partnership and take action on key issues; and

- jump to a handy list of online resources.

Visitors wanting to know more about their rights as health care consumers can study comparisons of several proposals in Congress or link to a site providing the text of the actual bills. They can email Congress members directly about key workplace and health care issues, and they can also sign up to receive regular email updates about the site's latest features. Members of the media can request to receive press releases by email and submit a form to request an interview or information for a story.

Other resources featured on the site include links to national organizations working on issues of concern to America's women and families, including women's groups, health care organizations, unions, and legal and civil rights groups.

The National Partnership for Women & Families is a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization that uses public education and advocacy to promote fairness in the workplace, quality health care, and policies that help women and men meet the dual demands of work and family. Founded in 1971 as the Women's Legal Defense Fund, the National Partnership has grown from a small group of volunteers into one of the nation's most powerful and effective advocates for women and families. Working with business, government, unions, nonprofit organizations, and the media, the National Partnership is a voice for fairness, a source for solutions, and a force for change.
