>oh wow. I, too, was induced with pitocin and experienced a postpartum hemorrhage. After reading the exchange between Dr.Seigel and Terri, I have a few more questions. It appears that induction is rather routine. Why is this if it is known that pitocin can cause this hemorrhage? Of course, I was not aware this was a possible side effect until I read your exchange. I was induced on my due date because my ob was going out of town. I was effaced and 1 cm. for 2 weeks prior to this. This was my first child and the due date was set by ultrasound. After I was stable enough to go home, I was unable to walk. I was in a wheelchair for 1 month. My MRIs showed edema of left pelvic/hip area. I was literally unable to move without severe pain. My leg would not support me, so I could not stand on my own. I could not manage the simplest tasks, bathing, getting to and off the toilet, moving in bed, on my own. I have been told that this is a "medical mystery" and that none of this should ever happen again. The baby is now 6 months. I can walk, but am unable to run. I still have recurring pain and tenderness. My questions are these: Has anyone else experienced these symptoms postpartum? All the doctors I have spoken with do not have any explanation of how this happened or what this is. Do you have any ideas about what this is? What are my options with a second birth? Should I have a c-section to avoid pitocin? Thank you.
