I am 45, already perimenopausal, no children and no >desire for any. > >-- >Robin Masson Hello Robin, I don't perform this procedure myself, but from reading about it, I understand that the benefits of leaving the cervix intact includ (1) possibly better pelvic support post-op and (2) enables the entire procedure to be completed laparoscopically, which usually gives quicker recovery. The disadvantage lies in the potential for cervical cancer development, which means that you would still have to go for your yearly Pap smear for screening. If you have had normal Paps every year, your risk of cervical cancer should be low at this point. Good luck with your surgery.
