color of vaginal tissue

I have researched and have not been able to find a specific answer to my question. What should the color of normal vaginal tissue (the opening and muscle tissue inside) be? I examined the area because of continuing irritation I was experiencing in the crease of the minora and majora. The tissue in the irritated area was red with a small movable bump or cyst. My tissue inside and on the vaginal opening appears to be white. Is the white appearance thick but opaque discharge covering the tissue? Is this normal?
