A little wine with dinner? Preconception question.

Is it evil ( read that "bad for the potential baby") to have a drink the days one is trying to conceive?

Secondly-- what about hubby drinking? He often has a glass of wine in the evening with occasionally a little more at parties or on vacations.

Should we both abstain before trying to conceive? If so, for how long?

One book I read said we should give up coffee,( I have switched to decaf) sweetner ( my doctor and dietician say nutrasweet is OK) and a multitude of other things, including alcohol, for months and months before trying to concieve.

Of course, another book says pregnant women shouldn't exercise, since it won't make any difference anyway--therefore, since it appears nearly anyone can get a book published, I don't know which "factoids" to believe and which to ignore!

Thanks.
