Hemorrhagic Ovarian CystFrom: Ann (anonymous@obgyn.net)Mon, 9 Feb 1998 11:25:12 -0600 (CST)
I am 40 years old and have been diagnosed with a probable homorrhagic cyst, approximately 6 cm in size located in the left adnexa. I have been experiencing a constant nagging sometime sharp pain for the past four week in the lower left pelvic region that radiates to the left side My first ultrasound was three weeks ago and I had another just last week. It showed the cyst still present but decreased "slightly" in size. I was told to come back in two months. I have gone through one menstural cycle. Although the pain is bearable, it is somewhat irritating and worrisome. Can an ultrasound provide a positive diagnosis of a cyst or can there be a possiblity of ovarian cancer? When is a laproscopy indicated? And, finally, what is the consequence if the cyst ruptures? My sister had a ruptured cyst and had to undergo major surgery that took 8 weeks to recover from. I would like to avoid the same. Thank you for your help.
