And can someone run down the different blood types and and what >they can produce. For example can an B and O blood type produce a AB >type child? I'm not a doctor, but I know the basics. Everyone has 2 genes for blood. Each parent gives their child one gene for blood type. The type O gene is recessive, which means you have to have two type O genes to have type O blood. If you have a gene for another blood type, you will have that blood type. Since you have type O blood, you have two type O genes and can only give your child a type O gene. The blood type of your child will depend on the father's blood type. If your husband is type A, he could have gene combination AA or AO. Your child will either have one A and one O gene (the AO combination = type A blood) or 2 O genes (the OO combination = type O blood) Here's a list of the gene combinations for each blood type: AA or AO = type A BB or BO = type B OO = type O AB = type AB However, when someone has type A or type B blood, you usually don't know which gene combination they have (although you can sometimes figure it out from their parent's and children's blood types). Possible variations with one type O parent: OO + AA = AO (type A blood) OO + A0 = AO (type A) or OO (type O) OO + BO = BO (type B) or OO (type O) OO + BB = BO (type B) OO + AB = AO (type A) or BO (type B) OO + OO = OO (type O) some other combos: AO + AO = AA or AO or OO AO + AA = AA or AO AO + BO = AO or BO or AB AO + BB = AB or BO AO + AB = AA or AO or BO or AB AA + BO = AB or AO AA + BB = AB AA + AB = AA or AB BO + BB = BB or BO BO + BO = BB or BO or OO BO + AB = AB or AO or BB or BO You can see from the above that a type O mom and type B dad can not have a type AB baby. I know this isn't a complete list, but it gives a basic idea. Hope this helps! Andrea
