Gallstones and pregnancy

I was diagnosed with gallstones back in September after several excruciating attacks. I consulted with a surgeon who recommended having it removed (of course). At the time I had just started a new job and my husband was in another state selling our old house -- not a good time to have surgery. I haven't ahd an attack since mid-October and I was wondering if it still makes sense to have this surgery. I sometimes have a dull, stabbing pain under my ribs, but nothing unbearable. Are there any indications I should watch for that the problem may be getting dangerous?

Now we are starting to discuss having another baby. Should I have this surgery before I get pregnant? Will pregnancy cause more attacks? Do gallstones pose a risk to a pregnancy?

Also, I've read that gallbladder problems may be a contraindication for BCP's. What are the potential problems associated with using BCP's when you have gallstones? Is there anything that should me monitored more closely than usual?

Finally, is there a specialist other than a surgeon that I should consult about my gallstones?

Thanks
