During WW II, many women were starving and stressed beyond our worst nightmares and no obvious problems were noted but in recent studies, long standing "stress" and duress (not just a tough day or a fight with your spouse) may be related to preterm labors. The answer is not consistent.

I wouldn't use this possibility to induce guilt in anyone, however, if this is the purpose of the question. I mention this because every time I have been asked this in the office, it's always been to "nail" someone. Hope I'm wrong this time.
