large clot - miscarriage?

I just finished my 4th month on Clomid, and started my period today, day 35. I ovulated around day 19-20. While I was in the doctor's office for my "clomid check", I passed a large clot (very unusual for me - I never pass clots during a period). It was exactly like what happened when I had a miscarriage a few years ago. I brought the clot to the midwife, who said "Well, it *could* be an early miscarriage, but I don't see any chorionic villi" (I think that's what she said). Then she threw it in the trash! I asked her about testing it, because last time, they sent the clot out, and the results came back as "products of conception." When I asked her about this, she said nothing could be done. I just sat there, stunned.

I did do a home pregnancy test yesterday, which was negative, so I'm hoping that I wasn't pregnant. But I'm worried that I was... I feel like I had a right to know, and now I feel guilty about not demanding that it be tested. Does this sound like an early miscarriage to any of you? Shouldn't something like that be sent to the lab to confirm/deny?
