(Pretty soon we can take a trip.) I also would like to encourage anyone contemplating a hysterectomy in the future to check the archives at this site. There is a lot of great information out there. I had my hysterectomy and bilateral oophorectomy in December. I had been putting up with heavy bleeding, cramping, constipation (from fibroids) and PMS for the last year. I tried the conservative methods, (medication), endometrial ablation to no avail. I did a lot of research (alot of it from the archives of this site) and spoke to my doctor at length about the option of a hysterectomy. I decided that this was the option for me. I can honestly say that I do not regret this decision for a moment. My backache is gone, constipation resolved, and my hormones are on an even keel thanks to Premarin. My surgery went very well with no complications. I had a great OB/GYN who did an excellent job. Unfortunately she is leaving the state for a new practice. (I am going to miss her!) I feel if you go into this with a positive attitude and well informed, you won't regret your decision.
