Re: Life After HysterectomyFrom: Angela (anonymous@obgyn.net)Sun, 18 Jan 1998 10:00:26 -0600 (CST)
Susan, PLEASE think twice. I know how bad the pain can be but know this, YOU are gambling with you Physical, Emotional and SEXUAL well-being.
One year ago I had a total hysterectomy/castration at the age of 40. My
22 year marriage and my life are over. From the first day after surgery
I felt my brain and body were not connected. In my case I no longer
have any sexual feelings of any kind. I can no longer have orgasm
because with the cervix and uterus gone I don't have the required organs
for the stimulation and contraction to produce orgasm. I did not know
any of this at the time I concented to the surgery. I was not told
about alternatives to hysterectomy, plus my Doctor ( I use this term
loosely) removed healthy ovaries. Make sure you do all the homework
yourself, don't rely on the doctor. It is your quality of life that is
at stake.
I don't mean to sound so negative, and I do know of good outcomes, but I
have also spoken with many women who are worse off since these
surgeries. I wish the best for you!
Angela
