Breast cancer stagingFrom: Connie (anonymous@obgyn.net)Sat, 10 Jan 1998 11:45:23 -0600 (CST)
My mother was first discovered to have breast cancer in 1985. The cancerous breast tumors were removed leaving the breast intact. In 1995 a bone scan revealed the breast cancer had metastasized, leaving her with cancer "spots" in her spine. This week she was told she now has spots in her arms, legs, pelvis and ribs. In the past she was given Tamoxifen, then Megaze(sp?), and now she will be given Arimidex. She had also been part of a clinical trial, and her oncologist is currently working on "breaking the code" to make sure she is getting other than a placebo. My mother lives in another state, and our only communication is sporadically by telephone. To finally get to the point, I am wondering about the staging of breast cancer. Is it possible to guess what stage she is in by the information I have given here. What does each stage mean? Thank you.
