cervical cancer vs. ectopic pg. emergency?From: paul (anonymous@obgyn.net)Wed, 31 Dec 1997 08:53:17 -0600 (CST)
There's a woman I occasionally talk to. A month ago, she said she was having minor surgery, and was taking darvon w. tylenol to control pain. A couple of weeks later, she said it was a biopsy for cervical cancer, and would be in a month, and she was up to demeral for the pain because the darvon was no longer enough. This all sounded incongruous to me, so I started reading. Now, I'm worried about her. If the pain is due to cancer, does that mean it's really advanced? Why such a long wait for a biopsy, unless they've written her off as hopeless? She gave birth nine months ago. If she had cancer, wouldn't a pap smear have turned that up in the prenatal workups? What if it's not cancer, but a tubal pregnancy? would demeral pain suppression mask the need for treatment, and put her at greater risk of potentially fatal rupture? It's not easy for me to get in contact with her. Is this serious enough that I should try to do so?
