Nancy Please accept my condolences for the death of your baby -- I can't even image the pain you feel. It is fairly likely that you are colonized with group B strep -- taht means you carry it but are not infected yourself. If you are treated with antibiotics, it is likely the strep will return. The recommendations of ACOG and the CDC are to treat during labor -- if you have an elective c-section, you should receive antibiotics before hand. Discuss with the pediatrician ahead of time whether the baby will get prophylactic treatment until cultures are back a couple of days after birth. Best wishes for conception, and easy delivery and a healthy child.
