Iron Supplements

I am six weeks pregnant. My doctor prescribed an iron supplement along with folic acid and calcium, to take everyday. Another doctor who I happened to talk to warned me against taking iron saying there were chances it would deposit in the growing foetus and harm its development.

Should I take an iron supplement or not? I haven't had a blood test recently, but the last was about a year ago in which my haemoglobin level was well within the normal range.

Thanks,
