I think what you are experiencing is the Gate Control Theory of Pain Management. The idea is that there are only so many pathways to your brain and only so many messages can travel those pathways at one time. When you are sitting at your desk quietly, there are more available pathways for pain messages to travel over. When you are very busy, the pathways are more jammed, so the pain messages can't get through as well.

The same theory can apply when you go shopping for several hours, feeling okay, until you sit down and then your feet start killing you! Happens to me at the amusement park too.
