HPV

Hi, I was diagnosed with HPV about 4 years ago. I had gone to a Planned Parenthood for a Pap Smear, etc., and they said I had an abnormal Pap. Later, when I called them about it, they told me I had HPV. Now, I've never had any symptoms of it and have had at least 5 Pap Smears since the time I was diagnosed. So far, all of them have come back fine. I was told by a Nurse Practioner at my doctor's office that I was probably misdiagnosed. Then, recently, another Nurse Practioner (at a clinic) told me that HPV is a virus and that sometimes it would show up on a Pap Smear and other times it wouldn't. Is this true? Does this mean that I do have the virus because I was diagnosed with it once even though it hasn't "shown" up ever since? It seems strange that it only showed up that one time and never again!

Thank you very much! Anissa
