androgyn-included estrogen therapyFrom: Kelly (anonymous@obgyn.net)Wed, 10 Dec 1997 16:50:20 -0600 (CST)
Iam a 38 year old who has had a complete hysterectomy. The surgery was necessary to relieve unbearable and uncontrollable menstrual pain, and also to remove a previously unsuspected (and benign) dermoid terratoma on one ovary. I am 2 months post surgical, and have resumed the largest part of my activities - well ahead of schedule - and for the most part am doing wonderfully. My question - I have one particularly irritating menopausal symptom - HOT FLASHES. I am currently taking estradiol 1mg on a schedule of one pill one day, two the next, one the next. This was my doctor's solution to the problem. I recently read in a Copenhagen journal article that inclusion of androgyn in the estrogen therapy routine greatly reduces the flash syndrome, as well as decreasing the possibility of bone density loss. I should also mention that I smoke a pack a day, and am chronically obese. Opinions??
