Egg quality, progesterone & cycle length

Hi there, I hope you can let me know if I am off base here. I am quite worried.. I have read a University of Bristol paper which indicated that : (my words) *Progesterone affects cycle length *cycle length affects quality of the egg being released in the upcoming ovulation.

In other words: as I have just had a cycle of 23 days, (the usual length) the egg that I would release in the upcoming cycle has been denied the extra 4 or 5 days to develop and therefore would be immature and not ready for fertilization.

I undergo IUI and I would rather not go ahead unless I can be assured that my lack of progesterone the month before won't render the procedure useless. My GP says it does not really matter and says I don't need the progesterone the month prior to the procedure. It troubles me to disagree but it stresses me to read one thing and be told another.

Am I entirely wrong? Should I just shut up and listen? I sure could use some advice here. Thanks for your time.. Karyn
