Pregnant and IUD location unknownFrom: Ana (anonymous@obgyn.net)Thu, 4 Dec 1997 19:54:15 -0600 (CST)
I read Diana King's posstings and am dealing with a similar problem. I went to see my Gynecologist to check on my IUD because I couldn't feel the strings. I has a three day delay in my period and thought it was due to trouble with the IUD. The doctor couldn't locate the IUD, so I was sent for a uterus sonogram. They couldn't locate the IUD either, but found a 3 week embryo. The doctor says that the IUD could have slowly perforated the uterus wall and must be somewhere else, but that the important thing is that it poses no danger to the fetus. He say after the birth they will locate that "lost" IUD and remove it. I'm happy that the IUD poses no threat to the fetus, but am not at all comfortable with a wandering IUD in my soon to be growing abdomen. They tell me not to worry which is the one thing that can make me worry the most. How can the IUD be located and be removed without affecting the pregnancy? If it is not removed what damage am I and the unborn baby being exposed to? Thank you for your replies,
-- Ana Maria
