Health insurance and lawsFrom: Amber (anonymous@obgyn.net)Wed, 3 Dec 1997 11:00:49 -0600 (CST)
I am expecting a layoff notice any day now. My employers are doing everything they can to keep the employees, but it appears that these layoffs are going to happen. The company down the street is hiring, so I'm not concerned about getting a new job, but I was wondering what the laws are concerning pregnancy. Is it considered a pre existing condition? By that I mean will I have to pay to keep the coverage from this job, or will the insurance from the new job cover me? I know it is illegal for them to ask about my family status/plans, but if they know, will it be more likely that they will try to come up with another reason not to hire me? Thanks. Amber
