hirsutism

I have quite a number of thick hairs on my chin that require daily attention. A few years ago, I was diagnosed as having a small cyst on my ovary and a high prolactin level. When I mentioned the "beard" to my obgyn, she said that the hair situation was probably hereditary and unrelated to the other issues. Well, no one else in the family has my problem and I am too young to have this because of menopause. My question is this- can this be indicative of a greater imbalence? Is there a specialist that I should consult?
