Hysterectomy...why such a battle?From: Amber (anonymous@obgyn.net)Wed, 19 Nov 1997 14:30:37 -0600 (CST)
Yes, I'm back again. Very upset today. I am a Navy wife and just got denied to get my hysterectomy done by my civilian Doctor that I have been seeing for 1 1/2 years. I just spent the entire day over at the Navy Hospital, fighting for my rights! I am now told that, the Navy does not condone hysterectomies & that "pelvic congestion syndrome" is something that has been made up over the years and that they do not "believe in this theory". I walked out on one Doctor today who said that all the pain and swelling I am having is due to some psychological problem. I went directly to the Captain of the gyn clinic & complained, I was then sent to talk to another Doctor. She was a little better...just a little... She now states that she is going to recommend a hysteroscopy, so they can look inside my uteris for polups or fibroids, if found they will remove & let me go on my way, if nothing is found, they will do the hysterectomy. You know, I have had the same pain & swelling every month for 1 1/2 years now, shouldn't I have a say in what happens? And, how can these people tell me what is right for me after talking with me for only 30 minutes, considering that my civilian Doctor knows everything about me and put me off from a hysterectomy for a year and tried several other ways to take care of my problems, before even suggesting a hysterectomy. I am very, very disappointed and not sure what to do !!!!!!
