Abnormal Uterine Bleeding

I've been experiencing AUB for a few years now, it started after I had a c-section and tubal ligation during the birth of my second child. Each month the bleeding, pain, and clotting increase. Last month I bled very heavily for 20 days. I finally gave in and went to a doctor yesterday. She did a pap smear because I had an abnormal one last year and had cryosurgery done to remove the cervical displaysia. I've been on progesterone cream (and suppositories) for one year with no results. She prescribed provera pills as an effort to get the bleeding under control. During the pelvic exam she "felt something" in my uterus. I am having a pelvic ultrasound on Nov 26 to see what's in there. She also said to be prepared for an endometrial biopsy in the near future. She seems honestly interested in finding and solving this problem which is a relief from my last doctor. My mother had uterine fibroids when she was my age (26) and had a hysterectomy at 28. Are uterine fibroids hereditary? Also I am a little afraid of cancer because I had a colposcopy and cryosurgery last year for what the doctor called "pre-cancerous" cells found on my cervix. I'm wondering what are the chances that all the cells weren't removed and have developed into cancer and would that cause my bleeding and pain problems?

And if the doctor can't find a cause of the bleeding and pain, am I doomed to live like this forever? Do I have options?

Thanks in Advance, Zan
