The medication is absorbed and gone and your cycles resume the way they were before. In rare patients, the DMPA is not absorbed as well as it should be and it may take much longer to be absorbed. If this is the case, one just acts like they were still getting the medication. This happens very rarely and is the main reason the FDA did not release DMPA here in the US until 25 years after it had been released in most countries around the world. To the young lady with Galactorrhea. I would suggest that you look for some other cause as I don't think Galactorrhea for 5 years would result from going off DMPA 5 years ago.
