10 days of spotting

I am a 33 year old woman with a 24 month old child. After nursing for 9 mos, my first period came in August of 96. Since that time, periods are basically very normal (about 28 days apart). In April (97) I began to spot a day or two before period -- the spotting prior to menstration happens about every other month. I mentioned this to my Dr. and he advised me that everything was fine. My husband and I are trying to conceive. I am ten days late and have been spotting since day 28... Mostly dark, tan, sometimes pink. A home pregnancy test result was negative on day 7 of spotting. I am not having any kind of pain. I am charting my temperatures and it has been ranging from 98.1-98.7, on the down side for three days now at around 98.2. To complicate matters, my right ovary and fallopian tube were removed four years ago due to a benign ovarian tumor. A biopsy of the left ovary indicated that the remaining ovary appeared to by "cystic." I am really worried that something is happening with my "good" ovary. My Dr. remains unconcerned and has fit me into his appointment book for Dec 2 for my peace of mind. I scheduled myself for a blood test for tomorrow to see if I'm pregnant. Is it too soon to schedule myself for an ultrasound to see if an ectopic pregnancy is forming? Can someone please provide possible reasons for these symptoms? Because of our desire to have another child, I want to do everything I can to preserve my last ovary --my last chance for another child. Thanks a million! Terri M.
