Semen Analysis QuestionFrom: Annette (anonymous@obgyn.net)Thu, 30 Oct 1997 08:49:46 -0800
My husband recently has a semen analysis and the following results were received today. I would like some insite as to what they mean. We live in a very small town and the chances of our doctor getting back to us anytime soon is remote. As I'm sure you'll understand, we are desperate to know what this means: 11% normal sperm. 89% abnormal sperm. Of the abnormal sperm, there were 60% head defects (13% amorphous, 51% tapered heads 4% acrosome defects): 49% midpiece defects (41% mitochodrial defects, 8% immature midpeice); 8% tail defects This report was obtained from a smear that was sent to a lab out of town. What exactly is this telling us? Can it be fixed, if indeed there is something wrong or is 11% enough to attain pregnancy? We have suffered from female factor infertility for 8 years, now after surgeries and drugs, we find out this. . . . any advice you may have is appreciated. Sincerely, Annette
