Heavy Bleeding and BC pillsFrom: AnnaMarie (anonymous@obgyn.net)Wed, 29 Oct 1997 07:42:01 -0600 (CST)
Hi, I am 50 years old and still in perimeno. I have always been a heavy bleeder, but these last 2 months, the flood gates have really opened. I called my doc last period, because I was flooding every 5 minutes, and she saw me in her office that very afternoon. She prescribed Loestrin for 1 month and explained that it would stop the bleeding. I asked her if the pills wouldn't make my fibroids grow and she said "definitely not", but that she would check me again in 3 weeks. She admitted that she really dosen't know yet what is causing my flooding, it could either be just hormonal or it could be the fibroids. My question is what exactly do BC pills do? I realize that they are low dose estrogen, but how does adding estrogen keep the uterine lining thin? I thought the estrogen makes the lining grow and excess estrogen results in hyperplasia. Also, does anyone have an opinion about the bc causing fibroids to grow, or maybe not for just short-term use??? I do not yet have any hot flashes, and was currently being treated with natural progesterone and that was extremely effective for controlling night sweats, mood swings, and breast soreness. Now, all those symptoms are back, any chance I could add back the NP while I am on the BC pills? Any comments would be appreciated, as I feel very frightened as to what is suddenly happening to my body. Thanks AnnaMarie ahaden@misonline.com
