-- Irregular cycles can be due to being overweight. Extra estrogen is manufactured in the fatty tissues of the body, so that the more fat tissue a person has, the more estrogen is made. A higher amount of estrogen confuses the brain and the pituitary sends the wrong messages to the ovary. The lining of the uterus might be overstimulated with estrogen, causing more bleeding. There may be some blood in the uterus all the time; but, you might only see it with exertion or with sex (which stimulates the uterus). Your gynecologist should be able to do a simple test to rule out serious problems in the uterus and then regulate your cycles with oral contraceptives or cyclical progesterone. I would encourage you to make an appointment. There is no need to be uncomfortable or to put up with continual bleeding.
