Skin peeling on labia majora.....From: Mrs. (anonymous@obgyn.net)Tue, 30 Sep 1997 13:51:02 -0500 (CDT)
Hello, I have an unusual problem. I've searched through all of the posts to date and haven't found a similar problem, except maybe vulvadynia, which I'm not really certain is the same thing as what's going on with me. My problem is that the skin on my labia majora and mons pubis is starting to peel off. I noticed this yesterday after viewing the area with a mirror to try to find out why I was suddenly itching so terribly. (This just started yesterday) I just finished my period the day before and used sanitary pads during my period, which seemed to irritate me more than normal. (the pads, not my period!) I've never experienced this before and I'm really starting to freak out! Nothing appears to be inflamed, nor do I have any painful urination or any of the other discomforts I found listed under vulvadynia. I have, however, noticed that the Barth's Gland seems to have a stinging sensation if I touch it, (i.e. wiping after urination), but otherwise it doesn't hurt. I've also just recently received an abnormal Pap smear (Class 3), and I'm due to go back on the 9th of October for a colposcopy and possibly a biopsy, if needed. I'm wondering if this could somehow be related to the abnormal results shown on my Pap. Also, I know this sounds crazy, but my biggest fear is that the colposcopy is going to reveal cervical or some other form of cancer, (I've never had an abnormal pap before and this is really wreaking havoc on my nerves!), and that this peeling is maybe a symptom of this cancer. If it's of any importance, I'm 27 y/o and have 2 children, ages 5 and 18 mos. I apologize for the length of this post, but I'm trying to give enough information so that I may possibly get some answers as to what this may be. Thank you for your time.
