Bone Marrow transplant recommended for mom's breast cancer - very scared !

My mom's doctor said her breast cancer was advanced and recommended a study at Vanderbilt University using bone marrow transplant as a treatment as well as very very high doses of chemo. I talked to the nurse in Huntsville where she lives and had the mastectomomy (sp?) and she said "this was a last .. best effort to save her life that her case was to advanced for them to handle it". They feel it is almost certain in her case that it will reoccur somewhere else since so many of the lymph nodes were positive (level 3). I am so so scared ! Is there any information for me to read on this type of treatment ? Are there any survivors of this treatment ? My mom is feeling like a guinie pig (sp?) and like she is living in the dark ages of the old "bleeding of patients" because they didn't know what else to do.... she is in the stage of "what is the point if its just gonna come back anyway".... I really want to be strong for her... but I feel like I am falling apart. I live in Nashville where Vanderbilt is and Dr. Hande is in charge of the study - we meet with the transplant team as well as the Dr. Hande again to talk more and see what the game plan is this Thursday ....

I gotta keep the faith but I feel like me and my husband are the only ones that know she can kick this thang in the ass and bite it back ... my mom already lost my brother to a bike accident when he was 33(7 years ago - I mentioned this in an earlier memo) so it seems as if my family can't get a break !!

Please help ... advise ... I feel as if I losin' it and we haven't even begun the fight.
