the pregnancy hormoneFrom: Lana (anonymous@obgyn.net)Sun, 28 Sep 1997 08:48:06 -0500 (CDT)
Hi, I have a friend that took a home pregnancy tests and it came out positive. She went to some sort of family planning clinic and that test came out positive as well. They said it was based on the amount of, I believe it's called, hcg hormone in her urine. It turns out that she was NOT pregnant, that she had a high amount of hcg in her system because of something else. This was a long time ago so I'm trying to remember all that she said but I BELIEVE she said something about her body being fooled into thinking she was pregnant so, therefore; it produced the hcg in error. What would cause this to happen? I've wondered for a long time but didn't want to bother my doctor with a random medical question that I wasn't experiencing....I just recently got online....so....I chose to ask you instead! :)
