What is the efficacy of bed rest for preterm contractions (22-26 weeks)?

I am curious about the effectiveness of bed rest in cases of preterm labor or possible contractions. Is this an effective means of preventing premature delivery? Are there any studies accesible on the Net that prove or disprove this method of treatment in pregnant woman? Many of my peers have been told to adhere to a strict regimen of bed rest for large portions of their pregnancy, but the onmly study I have been able to locate (a July 1994 article in The Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology titled "Bed Rest in Pregnancy") has states that bed rest is NOT an effective means of controlling preterm labor.

I wonder if any of you could offer your opinions or point me to more recent studies on this subject.

Thanks in advance,
