HPV and condomsFrom: Andrea (anonymous@obgyn.net)Mon, 22 Sep 1997 11:27:22 -0500 (CDT)
My husband recently informed me that when he was 14 or so he had genital warts. He had them burnt off and they have never come back. He did not know that even if you get the warts removed that you still have the virus in your body and can give it to other people. This past April, I was diagnosed with moderate dysplasia. I'm sure it was caused by HPV since my husband has it. I had cryosurgery in May, and just had my 1st follow up pap smear. Thank God it came back normal. My husband and I have been using condoms for birth control, and I've been using pads instead of tampons when I'm having my period. What I want to know is do you recommend we continue to use condoms even though both of us have HPV? Would it increase/decrease my chances of the cervical dysplasia coming back? Would appreciate any info.
