Kim- I'll bet it's a Nabothian cyst, a smooth, painless cervical cyst that forms when mucous builds up behind a thin area of cervical cells. They are usually about the size of a pencil eraser up to a dime, but in rare cases can become very large. They are not cancerous, are harmless, do not cause abnormal periods, pain, or infertility, and are simply one of those things we see when we look at the cervix closely. While they don't really "come and go" they can spontaneously pop and drain, then recur in an area nearby. I'll bet that's what happened. If you really want a diagnosis, have your doctor take a long, thin, needle and pop the cyst, which (amazingly) is basically painless. Thanks,
