bladder/urinary infectionFrom: Cathleen (anonymous@obgyn.net)Thu, 11 Sep 1997 11:36:42 -0500 (CDT)
I am 46 years old and in very good health (except for migraines). I recently went to the doctor concerned about a pain on my right front side. A nurse practicioner did a pelvic, urine sample and ordered a vaginal ultra sound. She claims that I have a bladder/urinary infection and prescribed an antibiotic. My question is, I have absolutely no signs of a bladder infection such as, burning, urge to urinate, etc. All I have is this pain on my right side that has been there for at least 2 months and won't go away. Its not excrutiating but just a dull constant pain. (I originally thought it was from lifting and packing heavy boxes, as our office has just gone through a major move.) I also have a small cyst on my right ovary. Is it possible to have this infection or was the urine test misread? Just curious, as I'm not one to take alot of medication and don't want to be taking this antibiotic if its not needed. When I questioned the nurse practioner, she said a person doesn't necessarily have to have those symptoms and that ecoli did show up in the urine test. I would appreciate any information regarding this.
