amenorreahFrom: ellen (anonymous@obgyn.net)Mon, 1 Sep 1997 10:11:21 -0500 (CDT)
Since going off of the pill in December '96, I have not had a period. My gyunecologist has tested me for all related clinical diseases (thyroid, pituitary, etc.) and there seems to be nothing wrong with me except I am not producing estrogen. I was also under a lot of stress because my father was terminally ill at the same time that I ceased taking the pill, whihc may also be contributing to the amenorreah. My doctor has recommended going back on the pill to replace the estrogen,. which I understand will not address the underlying hormonal problem. My husband and I want to have children next year, so going back on the pill is not appealing to me. My question (finally) is: do I have any other options (conventional or alternative medicine) for getting my cycle back on track? What risk am I exposing myself to by not having estrogen in my body for almost a year? I should add that I was never very regular but I do not have a history of skipping periods entirely. Thank you.
