Hi Doctors, The women in my family all have a curious kind of spasm or cramp that I wonder if you have ever heard about. Each of us at some stage has had a spasm (?) in a rather deleicate area, somewheres up between the vagina and the rectum. Its pretty nasty and quite debilitating while it lasts. It feels like you want to push, you break out in a cold sweat, sometimes it can be so bad you want to vomit. It usually lasts about a half an hour. It is hard to place exactly as it feels like a charlie horse somewhere in the lower bowel. Mom gets it sometimes at night while sleeping, my 2 sisters have had it during sexual excitement / right after orgasms another sister can get it when she empties her bowels and I can get it if I sit on the edge of a chair and have my weight on the wrong spot. How embarrasing! They only thing that seems to help is a really hot bath or hot water bottle and sometimes advil. Not convenient at 2am or in a meeting. What on earth could it be and what could cause it? Any hypothesis would be entertained! Thank you, Karyn
