Abdominal PinchingFrom: Jim (anonymous@obgyn.net)Thu, 21 Aug 1997 16:38:07 -0500 (CDT)
My wife recently underwent a colposcopy and biopsy after receiving an abnormal pap test. The diagnosis was mild dysplasia and she will return for a followup colposcopy in three months. Since receiving the call indicating the abnormal pap test, she has experienced mild abdominal pinching along with pressure in her lower back. This has been going on now for approximately four weeks. Also, the day she received the news about the abnormal pap test she got her period, which was about three days early. She just got her second period now which was again about three days early. Normally, she is very regular, with regard to a 28 day menstrual cycle. Essentially, we are trying to determine whether or not stress may be causing the abdominal symptoms and early periods. It seems too coincidental that this all started the day she received the pap test news. Needless to say, she has been very stressed as a result of the abnormal pap, the colposcopy and now the abdominal pinching and early periods. Her bowel habits are just now getting back to normal after having a nervous stomach and loose and increased bowel movements for much of this time period. She did go back to her regular doctor for the abdominal symptoms, but nothing could be determined without further testing, which would include a barium enema, pelvic ultrasound, etc. The doctor thinks that this may just be stress and that the pains could be associated with irritable or spastic bowels and that we should just give it time to sort itself out. We are thinking of getting a second opinion in case there may be something more serious going on. Do you believe stress could be causing these problems . . . what would you suggest we do???
